Licensed general contractor in Sevier County, TN
I’m Mike Merrell, a licensed and insured general contractor building new homes, cabins and renovations in Sevier County, including Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Seymour, Kodak and Wears Valley.
Merrell Mountain Home Builders, LLC holds Tennessee contractor license #82006 (BC-A residential). I own the company.
Building in Sevier County
Sevier County is the heart of the Smokies cabin market, and a lot of the work here is cabins built to rent. I also build homes for people who live here full-time. I own and run short-term rental cabins myself, so I plan layouts, bedrooms, hot tubs, decks and finishes around what guests book and what holds up to turnover. Many lots here are steep, so the foundation and site work often matter as much as the house.
Projects I take on in Sevier County
- New custom homes of any size and style, from your plans, an architect’s plans or one of mine
- Short-term rental cabins, from small A-frames to multi-bedroom cabins
- Hot tub decks, covered porches and fire pit areas
- House-to-cabin conversions for rental use
- Renovations of existing homes and cabins
Permits and inspections
I pull the building permit and schedule inspections. If your lot is inside city limits, the city usually handles permits; otherwise it goes through the county. Either way, that’s part of my job, not yours.
Start with a plan and a real estimate
You can start from one of my Smoky Ridge plans or bring your own. Each Smoky Ridge plan includes a cost-to-build sheet and a 2024 IRC code check, which I update with local prices to give you a line-by-line estimate before any work starts.
Recent work
See Cumorah, a bathroom remodel and Far West, three recent projects I designed, built or remodeled.
